Kirvas Elokim li tov, the best thing for me is to be close to Hashem."Tehillim 73
Parshas V'eschanan, is full of so many of the basics of our Yahadus, our Judaism: emunah, trust, in Hashem; emunah in Am Yisrael, in the Jewish nation; emunah in Toras Yisrael, in our Torah; emunah in Eretz Yisrael, in our land.
There are 3 little words, three words to live by, three words that, if we repeat them over and over and over again, will be the guide in our lives, will be the basis in our lives, will be the help in our lives: Ein ohd milvado--There is nothing in our lives for us except Hashem.
Ein ohd milvado – 3 words that should be our mantra.
Ein ohd milvado. If we know these words, if we repeat these words, whatever situation we are in, whatever difficulties we are in, whatever nisayon we are in, Ein ohd milvado. We know there is nothing that happens to us without Your love, Hashem; without Your hashgacha, Your supervision, Hashem. There is no brachah, there is no neis, no miracle, in our lives except that which comes from Your love, Hashem. Ein ohd milvado--there is nothing and nobody for us, except You, Hashem. Ein ohd milvado--there is nobody that we want to be close to except for You, Hashem.
And as I stand here from Ir David, the city of David, looking at the palace that once belonged to David haMelech, King David, and the city that belonged to David haMelech. Last week, I was zocheh, I merited to go to the kever, the burial site, of David haMelech for the first time. As I stood there crying, saying the words of sefer Tehillim, the Psalms, at kever David, thanking David for his conversation with Hashem - for the words of Tehillim are just that. David haMelech shared with us his private conversation with Hashem, his private communication with Hashem, his feelings, his emotions, his experiences, are all in sefer Tehillim. He shared it with the world. We turn to Tehillim for every experience we go through. David haMelech taught us that we can talk to Hashem about whatever it is that experience, whatever it is that we are going through. We can express it to Hashem.
David haMelech shared with us his private conversation with Hashem, his private communication with Hashem, his feelings, his emotions, his experiences, are all in sefer Tehillim. He shared it with the world.
We learn that through sefer Tehillim. In perek Samech-Gimel (Chapter 73), David haMelech tells us, "Kirvas Elokim li tov, the best thing for me is to be close to Hashem." That goes for each and every one of us. "Kirvas Elokim li tov, Hashem, I just want to be close to You. I just want to feel You close to me." Because, as we learn, Ein ohd milvado. There is nothing for us, except for You, Hashem. And if I know that, and if I believe in that, I can believe in myself; I can believe in anything.
Kirvas Elokim li tov; Ein ohd milvado.
And with that, I wish you a wonderful day, and know that Hashem is with you, with all of us, today and always. Kirvas Elokim li tov; Ein ohd milvado.
