Shabbos Beraishis – Where We Are All One

“On Shabbos Beraishis, everyone is dancing with each other.”

-The Ziditchover

This is based on Tosafos (Sanhedrin 37b), that the Malachim (angels) have 6 wings, and when they say the shirah during the weekday, each wing corresponds to one of the six weekdays, but on Shabbos they don’t have a 7th wing and they aren’t able to sing shirah, so Klal Yisrael says the shirah on Shabbos in their stead.

But on Shabbos Beraishis, since the angels were only created on the second day of Creation, there is one wing missing, because of the 6 wings corresponds to the first day of Creation. When it comes Shabbos Beraishis, the angels are able to say the Shirah. Thus on Shabbos Beraishis, everyone can dance together – both Klal Yisrael and the Malachim, as one.

To explore this deeper, there are two great forms of avodah, corresponding to the two different modes of the Malachim, who are called the Chashmalim, and the word Chashmal stands for Chash (silence) and Mal (speech), or the inactive and active modes of serving Hashem.

The inner avodah is represented by Chash (silence/inactivity) is to contemplate the holy names of Hashem, which is in the category of Chochmah, or bittul, corresponding to Atzilus, and the higher root where the Sefiros (Heavenly spheres or emanations) are drawn from. It is the level of Shabbos Kodesh, where Klal Yisrael says the shirah.

There is also an outer avodah, represented by Mal (speech/activity), which includes the avodah of kabalas ol (accepting our duties to Hashem, which is Malchus), love and fear of Hashem (Chessed and Gevurah), d’veykus with Hashem (Tiferes) and contemplating G- dliness (Binah), which all correspond to the lower worlds, BiY”A (Beriah, Yetzirah, Asiyah, the three worlds beneath Atzilus), the source of the Malachim (angels). This is all the level of shirah sung during the weekday, which is through the Malachim.

On Shabbos Beraishis, these two forms of avodah come together as one. There is the avodah of both BiY”A (Beriya, Yetzira and Asiya) and Atzilus together, forming the name of HaVaYa”H )יהו"ה(.

All of these come together on Shabbos Beraishis to form one avodah, becoming the secret of Chashma”l – all in “one”:

ה The last heh = avodah of Hisbodedus & tefillah

ו vov = Torah

ה the first hey= Hisbonenus

י yud = yichudim (lit. “unifications”, or combinations of names of Hashem that are accompanied with the thought of d’veykus in Hashem).

May be all experience this Chashmal energy from the chagim illuminating and glimmering constantly with us and within Am Yisrael, as we continue our dance, in love and connection with each other.
